The proposal for the Energy from Waste (EfW) facility comes after a summer of intensive public consultations about how Staffordshire should deal with it is growing mountain of household waste. Over 90% of the thousands of respondents, from all walks of life and areas of Staffordshire, supported the idea of moving to Zero Waste to Landfill, maximising recycling and moving to generate more energy from the residual waste.

This is the popular choice – but the more difficult decision is about where the new EfW facility should go. A massive amount of research has gone into selecting the site. Based on this research, the Four Ashes site has been selected as the best location. You can download a map of the site below.
The combustion of waste in an EfW facility is a safe, efficient and modern way of treating waste that cannot be reused, recycled or composted. This process generates energy in the form of electricity and/or heat, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and diverting waste away from landfill.
It is a tried and tested technology used in hundreds of cities and communities across Europe. They are a common sight in city centres, including Paris and Vienna. Please click here to see a selection of online links to these facilities and others like them.
